The CRESCER Project held from November 22nd to 26th the training and capacity building activities for the staff that will be part of the research implementation in the provinces of Huíla and Cunene in the Rectory of the Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University (UMN) in the city of Lubango, Huíla Province. Aimed at future trainers of Community and Health Development Agents (Agentes de Desenvolvimento Comunitário e Sanitário – ADECOS)and their supervisors, the formation aims to share tools for community actions that help improve the prevention and treatment of malnutrition in children under five years old. In addition to malnutrition, the focus of the training is also perinatal care.
The opening speech was delivered by the Director of the Provincial Health Office, Luciana Guimarães, and was attended by the Vice Rector for Administration and Management of the UMN, Sebastião António, the Provincial Director of the Social Action Office, Family and Gender Equity, Catarina Miguel, the Dean of the UMN, Ana Gerardo, and the team from FAS – Institute for Local Development.
The training was attended by 26 ADECOS’s Supervisors from the Chicomba, Jamba, Quipungo, Matala, Cuvango, Cahama, Cuvelai, Ombadja and Lubango municipalities, and 4 community assistants who will be involved in supporting the work of the ADECOS along with the implementation of sensitive and specific nutrition interventions in the municipalities participating in the CRESCER Project. The training package was a total of 35 hours, organized into five capacity building blocks and facilitated by 3 trainers.
